PlasticsFatE partner Alberto Katsumiti (GAIKER) recently delivered a highly informative training session at the Research in Environmental Contamination and Toxicology event, held under the aegis of Investigación en Contaminación y Toxicología Ambientales (INCyTA), organised by Masters CTA and ECT+ and CTA PhD program (UPV/EHU) at the Marine Station of Plentzia, University of the Basque Country.

In Alberto’s session, titled: “Assessment of environmental pollution and its impacts on human health,” he discussed the use of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) to assess endpoints of interest in toxicology and presented the testing strategy adopted in PlasticsFatE to assess the effects of micro and nanoplastics on human health.
A round table session at the end of the event saw Alberto co-delivering a final pitch on "Success stories from ECT Doctors" before a general debate.
In addressing the captive audience, Alberto commented: “You need to be guided by your passion for science and use your knowledge to build a better world. We are currently facing several environmental challenges such as microplastic contamination that require our research efforts to understand their consequences to human and environmental health. You are the new generation of researchers in this field, and I look forward to working with you as future experts in Environmental Toxicology.”
